New in Version 3.3.0
Manage styles in a professional manner: The most notable new feature in eLAIX 3.3.0 is certainly the way you manage styles. Define styles for sections (boxes with any content), paragraphs and characters. You can define your own styles and/or use the predefined ILIAS styles. Set font related properties, margins, borders, background color or graphic for your styles and your document will look exactly the same in the web than it looks in Writer. Your styles are even exported in a hierarchical manner, if you make use of it. This is really convenient, if you for example want to change the font family for all elements on all pages. You can achive this with a single declaration. In Writer as well as in ILIAS.
Set bookmarks and link to them: If you want to set an internal link to any part of your document, set a bookmark whereever you want and then link to that bookmark from any other place within your document. The internal links do also work as clickable links in Writer and in a PDF file, that you generate with Writer.
Insert Accordion Elements: eLAIX provides a new toolbar button, which lets you insert groups of accordion elements with just a few mouse clicks. Accodions do provide a nice and modern way in structruring information within the content area of your site.
Insert downloadable files: You might want to provide files for downloading in certain contextes. Just click on the file list button in the eLAIX toolbar and select the file or multiple files, you want to put into the file list. eLAIX will manage all the rest for you.
Insert multimedia files (fixed): Due to a changement in the internal representation of multimedia files since OpenOffice 3.0, eLAIX was not able to successfully export multimedia files to ILIAS. This problem has now been fixed.
Open Links in ILIAS frames: eLAIX now supports the ILIAS feature, to show links in additional frames. Just enter "Media", "Glossary" or "FAQ" in the field "Frame" within the "Insert Hyperlink" Dialog.
Mark words as ILIAS Keywords: Select one or more words in Writer and give your selection the character style "ILIAS Keyword". That's it.
Furthermore: Some smaller features have also been implemented. You can partly export the document by selecting the chapters you want to export. The export dialog has been improved and can now stay opened to start a further export. The export of graphics is now shown. If you deactivate the option "Show graphics in their original sizes", the grahics are shown in the way they are scaled and can be shown in full size by a small magnifier symbol at the bottom of the graphic. In the metadata dialog the ISO 639-1 language codes have been implemented.
Other features
The reimport of learning modules
With eLAIX you can also reimport a once exported leaning module or import one that has been exported from ILIAS. However, not all parts of the document are recognized so far. Here's a list of what is currently supported:
- Metadata (part)
- Structure
- Standard Paragraphs
- ILIAS Paragraphs
- Graphics (size, adjustment, caption)
- Lists (simple)
- External Hyperlinks
- Bold Text
- Tables (flat with paragraphs)
Especially the new features that are coming with eLAIX 3.3.0 are not implemented at the present. This is what the upcoming eLAIX 3.4.0 will be focused on.
So stay tuned to the further development or even better support the project by ordering a functionality or becoming an eLAIX partner.
